Englewood is an Unincorporated Community

Englewood, an unincorporated community divided between Sarasota and Charlotte County, is rich in culture and history. The split is about half a mile south of Dearborn Street, which is Englewood's Downtown area and part of the Historical District or Old Englewood Village. This area, with its independent shops, eateries, boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, coffee shops, and restaurants, is a testament to the community's vibrant culture. Sarasota County's efforts in reviving this area have also preserved its historical significance.

As previously mentioned, South of Dearborn Street, Charlotte County's serene reign begins. While they may not have a Main Street, they do offer access to the tranquil beaches. A modern drawbridge connects SR 772 with the Barrier Island Manasota Key, a transition that instantly instills a sense of peace. The island, with its several beaches, and Englewood Harbor, is a perfect place to unwind. The bars and restaurants attract a fair share of people, but for a quieter experience, consider renting a boat, taking a dolphin tour, or visiting the State Beach Park, Middle Beach, or Manasota Beach - places where the only entertainment is the pure beauty of nature.

The Fishing Capital

While Venice is called the "Shark Tooth Capital of the World," Englewood could be named the "Fishing Capital." Fishing still plays a vital role because an avid fisherman can find whatever he needs here. He can fish in fresh and salt water. The ocean (Gulf water), bays, creeks, rivers, and shorelines (beaches) create different environments teeming with a diverse range of fish species, ready to be explored.

And there are not only fish in the water.  Oysters, clams, shrimp, crabs, and lobsters also thrive in the warm water. You can fish with a rod, net, or spear gun , each offering a unique and exciting fishing experience (certain restrictions apply). So, this whole area seems to be "fishermen's heaven" ...and "fish hell."

Now, it may seem as if Englewood is only about fishing; however, that is not true. Boating, diving, swimming, parasailing, sunbathing, hiking, biking, tennis, golfing and much more are all activities you can enjoy in Englewood.
